Imece Gemisi is an applied theatre project that took place in Van, Kurdistan in 2013, after the big earthquake. Van is a Kurdish city. The war between the Kurdish guerrilla and the Turkish military has been going on for more than 30 years.
We organized workshops and five Forum Theatre performances with Kurdish youth. Working together for six months, we focused on issues such as women’s rights and child brides, ethnic conflict, and economic difficulties.
The project was directed and facilitated by Lara Aysal in collaboration with Ray Performance Collective. With the support of the Turkish National Agency and the European Union Youth Initiative Program.
